Britain’s Most Reliable Cars 2017

The technology going into cars these days is truly astounding. Nissan is actively negotiating with an as of yet unnamed town in England to test out a prototype driverless car. While that particular vehicle likely won’t be on the market and available to the public until at least 2020 (under the best of circumstances), it is true that even fairly basic cars are much more sophisticated than the used to be.

One of the main areas of improvement is reliability of the vehicle. We’re far less likely to see motorists with a broken down car on the motorway compared to decades past, and some of the car brands you might have previously considered to be cheap and poor quality have completely transformed.

Since having a reliable car model can save money on auto parts, time and loads of headaches, you might want to consider one of these five cars, which were found to be the most reliable for sale today in the UK based on a survey with over 50,000 respondents. Here they are!

Top 5 most reliable cars in the UK

  1. Subaru Forester, £25,500 – £31,000

To get us started, we have a timeless classic among SUVs: the Subaru Forester, the one that started the crossover class of cars. Unfortunately, you’ll only be getting around 33 mpg and will have to settle for a petrol engine. The Forester also has a less than stellar rating of just 2.8/5 on CarBuyer UK.

  1. Tesla Model S, £60,000 – £103,000

If you’re into the idea of a full electric car and have about 70,000 quid to invest in that dream, the Tesla Model S is the only electric in the top 10 of the UK’s most reliable cars. This car has been a game changer in the auto industry, with incredible power for an electric and up to 300 miles on a single charge. Plus, you get some extra storage space where there would otherwise be a combustion engine – a front boot in addition to the one in the back. This model earned 4/5 stars on CarBuyer UK.

  1. Lexus GS, £33,500 – £51,000

Our third most dependable model is another member of the Lexus family, the Lexus GS, which is to the IS what the Camry might be to the Corolla. It scored a 3.4/5 star rating from CarBuyer UK.

  1. Toyota Land Cruiser, £36,000 – £55,000

Coming in second place is our most reliable SUV on the list. While very reliable, you’ll be paying for a mileage of just 38 mpg plus a road tax of nearly £300. Still, it’s a sure bet for off-road driving or difficult road conditions. The Toyota Land Cruiser scored a rating of 3.3/5 on CarBuyer UK.

  1. Lexus IS, £29,000 – £37,000

And our most reliable model is yet another Lexus/Toyota, the Lexus IS, meaning the top 3 spots all go to the same Japanese car manufacturer. This car is the Lexus equivalent of the BMW 3 Series and is touted for its nice interior and very comfy seats. The IS is available with a petrol engine or as a hybrid, but so far no diesel engine is available. This car scores 3.9/5 stars from CarBuyer UK.
